The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) developed the Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) software to give Medicare providers/suppliers a FREE tool to read and print an Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
Providers/suppliers who use the MREP software package have the ability to print paper documentation that can be used to reconcile accounts receivable, and create document(s) that can be included with claim submission to secondary/tertiary payers. The output of MREP is similar to the current Standard Paper Remittance (SPR) format. The availability to print out an ERA in the SPR format is cost effective. EDI Support Services (EDISS) encourages providers to use MREP or other software to read, view, and print an ERA to eliminate any need for SPRs.
MREP Version 2.7 will be available for download January 4, 2010.
The following update is effective with the January 2010 release.
Note: Since updates are not needed to the MREP software with the January 2010 release, the user must use the "Codes.ini" file available on the CMS website. The instructions can be obtained from the MREP User Guide Manual under the “Working with MREP Remittances Advices” section (How to Update (Import) the CARC/RARC codes).
EDI Support Services (EDISS) reminds Iowa Medicaid providers registering for Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) that software capable of translating this transaction is required.
Receiving your Remittance Advice electronically has many advantages, but it is necessary to have software that can accurately translate the ERA, also known as the 835 transaction, into a readable format.
EDISS offers PC-ACE Pro32 to our Trading Partner community. This free software is available for download from our website www.edissweb.com and has functionality to correctly translate the ERA. Please remember that prior to downloading PC-ACE Pro32, EDISS requires a Software Licensing Agreement (SLA) to be on file.
The NPI for a referring or ordering physician must be on file with Medicare Part B prior to using it in an electronic claim. Currently if the provider is not registered with Medicare Provider Enrollment an informational edit will appear on their Remittance Advice. After April 1, 2010, the claims will reject.
Referring and Order providers need to verify their enrollment in PECOS. They may do so by accessing the internet-based PECOS on the CMS website.
Before using Internet-based PECOS, providers should read the educational material about Internet-based PECOS that is available at on the CMS website. Once there, providers can scroll to the 'Downloads' section of that page and click on the materials that apply to their practice.
