Thank You for a Successful MBI Transition
For All Medicare Submitters
Noridian would like to thank all its submitters for a successful Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) Transition!
As a reminder, all Medicare claims must be submitted using the MBI. Do not use hyphens or spaces with the MBI. Claims submitted using the Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) as the beneficiary identifier will not be forwarded for processing. Electronic claims submitted without a valid MBI will receive an A7:164:IL rejection on a 277CA report.
MLN Matters number SE18006 provides guidance on obtaining individual MBI’s, and their usage. On February 12, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) revised the article to indicate how the MBI look-up tool responds when the beneficiary record has a date of death.
